Composite fillings, explained simply
A composite filling is a soft, putty-like material made from a blend of resin and tiny ceramic particles. Your dentist shapes it into the cavity, layers it for strength, and hardens it with a special curing light. Once it's set, it's polished smooth - bonded to your tooth and matched to its natural colour.

What it's like on the day

We'll confirm what we're doing, take any X-rays needed, and answer any questions.

3. Preparing the tooth
The decayed or damaged part is gently removed, and the area is cleaned ready for the filling.
4. Placing the composite

How long does a white filling last?
Anywhere from 7 to 15 years on average, depending on the size and location of the filling and how well you look after your teeth. Smaller fillings in front teeth typically last longer than larger ones in back teeth that take heavy chewing forces.
