Brushing and flossing do a great job day-to-day, but they can't reach everything. Plaque hardens into tartar in places your toothbrush simply can't get to - and that's where problems start. Gum disease, bad breath, sensitivity, and even tooth loss often begin with build-up that's been left too long. Regular hygiene visits stop that cycle in its tracks.

Every appointment is tailored to you - your gum health, your habits, and what your teeth actually need that day.

Airflow is a modern alternative to traditional scale-and-polish. It uses a gentle jet of warm water, fine powder and air to remove stains, plaque and bacteria from your teeth and along the gum line. It's quick, comfortable, and brilliant at lifting stains from tea, coffee, red wine and smoking that a normal polish can struggle with.
Many of our patients tell us it's the most pleasant hygiene appointment they've ever had.

Gum disease isn't just a mouth problem. Research has linked untreated gum disease to a range of wider health issues, including:
Looking after your gums isn't just cosmetic - it's one of the simplest things you can do for your long-term health.
If any of the following sound familiar, don't wait for your next routine appointment. Book in sooner.

For most patients, every six months works well - usually alongside your routine check-up. If you have a history of gum disease, wear braces or clear aligners, have dental implants, smoke, or are pregnant, we'll often recommend every three to four months. We'll always give you a frequency that suits your specific needs - never a default.

A standard hygiene appointment is 30 minutes. If you've booked an Airflow appointment, it includes a full scale and polish too.
Here's how a typical appointment unfolds with us.

We'll ask about any sensitivity, bleeding or concerns since your last visit - and what your home routine looks like.

A check of your gum health, including any pocketing or recession that needs attention.

Depending on what you've booked, this might be ultrasonic scaling, hand scaling, Airflow, or a combination.

We'll show you any spots you're missing at home, recommend tools that might help, and give you a clear plan for keeping your gums healthy between visits.
Hygiene is one of those treatments that looks similar on paper everywhere - until you experience the difference for yourself. Here's what sets our appointments apart.
Our hygiene appointments are great value on their own - but if you visit regularly, our membership plan often works out cheaper while bundling in your check-ups, X-rays and a treatment discount too.

We've built our practice around the idea that good hygiene shouldn't feel rushed or unpleasant. Patients across South Leicester, Great Glen, Kibworth, Market Harborough and Hinckley travel to us for the same reason: a calm, modern practice with experienced clinicians who genuinely care about long-term oral health, not just a quick fix.

For most patients, no. Modern hygiene techniques - especially Airflow - are far gentler than they used to be. If you have sensitive teeth or particularly inflamed gums, we'll take it at your pace and can offer topical numbing if needed. Just let us know.
Airflow is suitable for most patients, but there are a few medical conditions where we'd recommend traditional cleaning instead. We'll always check this with you beforehand. It's particularly good for patients with veneers, crowns, bonding or implants because it's so gentle on dental work.
Often, yes - especially after Airflow. It removes surface staining from tea, coffee, red wine and smoking, which can leave teeth noticeably brighter. It won't change the underlying colour of your teeth though - for that, you'd want to look at teeth whitening.
Brush twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, clean between your teeth daily with floss or interdental brushes, and watch your sugar intake. We'll always tailor advice to your specific situation during your appointment.
If you're already a patient with us, yes. If you're new to the practice, we'd usually recommend a new patient examination first so we can build a full picture of your oral health and check there's nothing else that needs attention.
A small amount of bleeding is common, especially if there's been build-up sitting against the gum. It usually settles quickly once the area is clean and your gums start to heal. Persistent bleeding can be a sign of gum disease, which we'll always discuss and plan to manage.
